Gustaf Andersson (organ builder)
Gustaf Andersson (* 1797 in Tortuna , Västmanland ; † March 21, 1872 in Tärna , Västmanland) was a Swedish organ builder and musician in the first half of the 19th century.
Life
From 1814 to 1815 he studied harmony at the Royal Swedish Music Academy . Until 1819 he worked for the instrument and music box maker Pehr Strand (1756–1826) in Stockholm. There his colleague was the youngest son of Pehr Strand, Pehr Zacharias (1797-1844). Both received a scholarship in 1820 for a stay abroad. During this time, Andersson also worked for JG Mende in Leipzig and von Knoblauch in Dresden.
In 1823 he began studying at the Royal Swedish Music Academy in Stockholm and then became a privileged organ builder. From then on, together with Pehr Zacharias Strand and Johan Niclas Söderling from Gothenburg, he was one of the leading Swedish organ builders in the first half of the 18th century.
His son, Franz Andersson (1827–1869), later apprenticed with him. He also went abroad and studied a. a. also in Cologne with the organ building company Sonrek. In 1853 he received the organ builder privilege. He has been running the business together with his father since 1850.
Andersson has created a total of 45 organs , twelve of which are still preserved.
