Oxford Mountain, New Jersey

With Oxford Mountain (also known as West Oxford Mountain Natural Resource Area) is a nature reserve on the southern outskirts of Oxford in Warren County in the western US state of New Jersey called. It occupies part of the mountain of the same name as a protected area. On the northeastern border of the area runs the New Jersey Route 31 , southwest of it the Hill Road Mine . The area has a low protection status and serves as a recreational area for the small town. Everybody talks about nature and bird watchers , hikers and amateur - photographers use them.

For a short time in the 19th century, the site was home to the Stanley Mine - a not very profitable iron ore mine , which is nonetheless part of the region's mining history. Traces of this era can still be found in the forests: for example, mine train tracks or wooden watering tubs. The mine went into operation in 1868 and closed that same year. When the mine was being built, the construction and pit timber required was felled on site; the landscape was affected by this intervention. A forest project enabled the gradual reforestation of Oxford Mountain with deciduous trees .

The area of ​​the park covers 68.7 hectares. The height above sea level is 291 meters.
