Former Würzburg University of Education

The Würzburg University of Education existed from 1958 to 1972 as an independent university of education in Bavaria, which was assigned to the University of Würzburg .

A predecessor institution was the Würzburg Teacher Training College from 1935 to 1941 (in Bavaria alongside Bayreuth and Munich-Pasing), from which a teacher training institution emerged until 1945 that could be attended without a high school diploma.

Teacher training began in 1950 with provisional pedagogical courses , for which the Abitur was again required. From the institutes for teacher training established from 1954 for the training of elementary school teachers in Bavaria, six mostly still denominational educational universities emerged in 1958 (PH Augsburg, Bamberg, Bayreuth, Munich-Pasing, Nuremberg, Würzburg), which were assigned to the three state universities. The University of Würzburg included the Catholic PH Bamberg as well as the Catholic PH Würzburg at Wittelsbacherplatz 1. On August 1, 1972, they were dissolved and the PH Würzburg incorporated as the Institute for Education of the Philosophical Faculty II of the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg.
