Armin Grein

Armin Grein (born April 21, 1939 in Aschaffenburg ) was honorary federal chairman (chairman of the executive board of the federal association) of the free voters in Germany from 1994 to 2010 . education

After attending elementary school in Faulbach am Main, Armin Grein went to the humanistic grammar school in Miltenberg from 1949 and passed the Abitur there in 1958 . He then studied at what was then the Würzburg University of Education until 1961, and took psychology as an additional subject at the University of Würzburg . During his studies he became an active member of the Catholic student association K.St.V. Rheno-Frankonia Würzburg in the KV .

Activity as a teacher

From 1961 to 1972 Grein taught at elementary and secondary schools in Kreuzwertheim , Unterwittbach , Trennfeld and Rettersheim .

Activity in politics

From 1972 to 1984 he was full-time mayor of the city of Marktheidenfeld and member of the district assembly of the Main-Spessart district , since October 16, 2003 a member of the district assembly of Lower Franconia and a member of the personnel committee. On May 1, 1984 he became District Administrator of the Main-Spessart district , replacing District Administrator Erwin Ammann, who was no longer running for reasons of age . In the first election in 1984 on the basis of a nomination by the Free Voters, he received 51.13% of the votes cast, in the election on March 8, 1990 he was confirmed with 97.03%, in 1996 he received 61.8% and in March 2002 in one Runoff election against the CSU candidate Klaus Bittermann 56.1%. His tenure as district administrator ended on April 30, 2008.

In the 2009 European elections , Grein ran unsuccessfully for free voters in second place on the list.

Public activities

Armin Grein has also been involved in public life for over 25 years as chairman of Lebenshilfe for the disabled in Marktheidenfeld and the surrounding area, chairman of the district association for horticulture and landscape maintenance, and chairman of several foundations (Dr. Heinrich and Christine Renkl Foundation, Otto and Anna Herold -Altenheimstiftung Karlstadt) and special purpose associations (chairman of the Spessart nature park association , deputy chairman of the administrative board of Sparkasse Mainfranken-Würzburg) and member of many associations.

Honors

In October 1997 Armin Grein was awarded the Municipal Medal of Merit in silver, in May 2003 the Cross of Merit on Ribbon of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany , in July 2005 the Bavarian Order of Merit and in 2008 the Municipal Medal of Merit in gold. Private

He has three grown children (one son and two daughters) with his wife Martha, née Dannhäuser, whom he married in 1966. The couple lives in Marktheidenfeld .
