The Pöppendorfer Großsteingrab in the Waldhusener Forest (also Waldhusener Großsteingrab ) is a passage grave near the village of Pöppendorf , part of the Lübeck district of Kücknitz in Schleswig-Holstein . The megalithic system of the funnel beaker culture (TBK) was created between 3500 and 2800 BC. Chr.

location

The large stone grave is located on the northeastern edge of the Waldhusener Forest on the road between Pöppendorf and Kreuzkamp. It can be reached from Lübeck-Kücknitz or Lübeck-Travemünde.

history

The age of the Neolithic large stone grave is estimated at 5,000 to 6,000 years.

During the investigation of the burial mound, traces of Bronze Age and Slavic (subsequent) burials, such as those on the Pöppendorfer ring wall, were found.

Dimensions

The meridional , that is, south-facing megalithic complex is about 6 m long and, with the protruding entrance, about 3.7 m wide. The interior is about 4 m long, about 1.7 m wide and about 1.5 m high.

The grave consists of large boulders, twelve bearing stones and four cap stones. Ten support stones and three large cap stones form the chamber, two support stones and a smaller cap stone form the corridor on the south side. One of the carrier stones has two hewn sides. It was apparently inserted in the modern era to replace a slightly sunken support stone.

The entrance is to the right in the south on the western long side at the so-called " Holsteiner Kammer ".

The mound of earth that originally covered the large stone grave was removed in 1844. Here also between the visible today was stones located between masonry removed. At the base of the burial mound lay the remains of a presumably oval rolling stone wall, made of two to four layers of stones the size of a fist or overhead, which in places were sunk up to 0.3 m into the old surface. A similar finding comes from the dolmen of Wittenborn . Some stones were connected with metal clips. At a distance of about 3.5 m around the large stone grave there is a circle of 59 small boulders, which are supposed to represent the original size of the mound.
