Pürgger Poets Weeks

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pürgger Poet Weeks from 1953 to 1955 were literary events organized annually in the community of Pürgg-Trautenfels , in which Austrian and individual German authors from the “national” camp came into contact with younger, unencumbered writers.

The initiator of the meeting was Alfred Rainer , the then district party leader of the ÖVP in Liezen and founder of the Ennstaler Kreis , who wanted to reintegrate the war returnees into Austrian society that had been influenced by the Nazi system. He enjoyed the goodwill of Governor Josef Krainer senior and that of the American occupation forces.

The list of participants at the Pürgger Meetings included prominent names at times. The participants in Pürgger's first poet week (September 17 to 20, 1953) included Hans Friedrich Blunck , Bruno Brehm , Paula Grogger , Fritz Habeck , Otto Hofmann-Wellenhof , Robert Hohlbaum , Mirko Jelusich , Günther Nenning , Karl Springenschmid and Herbert Zand . The 2nd Pürgger Dichterwoche (June 16-20, 1954) gathered in the courtyard of Trautenfels Castle, among others Herbert Cysarz , Kurt Frieberger , Christine Lavant , Josef Friedrich Perkonig , Frank Thiess and Hans Weigel . Participants in the third Pürgger Poet Week (September 14-18, 1955) included: Rudolf Bayr , Alfons von Czibulka , Ernst von Dombrowski , Jeannie Ebner , Otto Hofmann-Wellenhof, Wolfgang Kudrnofsky , Erich Landgrebe , Eugen Roth , Wieland Schmied .
