Přemysl Straka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Přemysl Straka (born June 25, 1926 in Theresienstadt , † February 2003 in Leitmeritz ) was a Czech painter and typographer from Bohemia .

Life

Straka grew up in Theresienstadt and was confronted with the pre-war and war times in his childhood. Due to his talent for painting and drawing , his parents made it possible for him to study privately in Germany ( Munich ), Italy ( Rome ) and Israel (Jerusalem University of Art and Design). He studied several painting techniques and was later able to apply them to his pictures.

At the beginning of the 50s he began to work independently as a painter. At first he designed his works with figures and torsos , he wanted to represent the dignity of the human being . He also worked in the advertising department in the galleries in Ústí nad Labem and Litomerice. In the early 1960s he turned to abstract painting. Later, from the late 1960s, he began to focus his artistic work on depicting his homeland as a means of expression. The result was pictures from the Bohemian Central Uplands with its variety of mountains and wide plains, whereby the contrast between the sky and the painted landscape was always in the foreground. He painted grasses, flowers, rocks, animals and reflecting water in clear detail. The time of day and the respective weather also play an important role in his meaningful images. Critics call his pictures reflexive meditation .

His works are an enrichment of the art fund and have been exhibited in Czech museums, Vienna , Munich, Budapest , Amsterdam , England , Australia and Israel , among others . Art lovers from different countries bought his works, especially from Germany and Austria . He was a member of the UVU - Union of Fine Artists and a member of the SČVU gallery branches in Ústí nad Labem. He lived in Litoměřice, Havličkova 18. He died in February 2003 in Litoměřice.
