The P-Funk mythology is a mythology created by George Clinton and Parliament - Funkadelic . Basically it is about the battle between good and evil, which is waged between science fiction- like beings. The radio Abandoning his definition as a music genre and becomes the redeeming element for mankind.

Both Parliament and Funkadelic released various concept albums in the 1970s , the concept of which was based on the image of the respective music group. Various channels are used to convey these concepts. In addition to the lyrics, narrative passages and rhymes are used, the covers of the sound carriers show a high proportion of imagery ( comics ) and during performances the musicians slip into the costumes of various characters from the P-Funk mythology.

Origin and Creation

An explanation of the origin of the myth can be found on the album The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein from 1976. In the play Prelude it says:

"Once upon a time ... the funk. In the days of Funkapus the earth was one (on the one) . The funk flowed freely and freedom was free from the need to become free. Even the Cro-Nasal Sapiens and the Thumpasorus People lived side by side in peace.

Soon, however, empires emerged which were led by dictators. These priests, pimps, and politicians made subjects of the unsuspecting - they punished their feelings and needs, prevented their intentions, and prostituted their instincts - until they became completely dependent. The Cro-Nasal Sapiens submitted to the dictators unconditionally, because from their point of view it was inevitable to be constantly overlooked by others. They straightened their hair and lost all sense of the groove .

The Thumpasorus People, however, knew that the funk was its own reward. So they tried to stand up straight to the pure, uncircumcised funk. An impossible endeavor in a world ruled by power and greed. They therefore locked the secret of the radio, together with the pharaohs, deep within the Egyptian pyramids . With the Mothership they fled into space to continue the party. There they are now waiting for a safe return to make our planet funky again. "

Figures and events

Starchild

On the album Mothership Connection (1975) the listener is introduced to a divine being named Starchild. It comes back to earth with the mothership and represents life, freedom, sexuality and positive energy, in short the funk entelechy . The landing of a mothership dummy was the highlight of the P-Funk concerts. It became the symbol of the chariot that will lead the oppressed population back to the promised land.

Dr. Spark stone

On the following album The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein (1976) it is known that Starchild was supported by Dr. Funkenstein was commissioned to bring radio back to the Earthlings . Dr. Funkenstein is considered the mastermind of radio and the head of the Thumpasorus People. He creates clones , which are called Children of Production. They support Starchild in its mission. Dr. Funkenstein meanwhile announces: "The bigger the pain, the bigger the pill has to be - I am the giant pill."

Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk

On the album Funkentelechy Vs. The Placebo Syndrome (1977) appears on Starchild's archenemy Sir Nose D ' Void offunk. It is inspired by Pinocchio's theory, which says that if you fake funk (a subtle attack on the emerging commercial disco music that uses many elements of funk music) your nose will grow . Sir Nose says of himself that he will never dance and that he will stop the funk. It also represents the placebo syndrome, which prevents people from thinking and dancing. His goal is to put the souls into a sleep state, so the zone of zero radio activity (Zone of Zero radio activity) to enlarge.

Bop Gun and Flashlight

Starchild was led by Dr. Funkenstein equipped with the bop gun. However, it is not his intention to kill Sir Nose with it, but to hit him with the so-called flashlight. This inevitably leads to the victim starting to dance. The action succeeds and Sir Nose dances to the funk for the first time.

Mr. Wiggles and Rumpofsteelskin

The album Motor Booty Affair (1978) moved the scene to Atlantis , where it was possible to dance underwater without getting wet. Sir Nose has now allied himself with Bumpnoxious Rumpofsteelskin. But Starchild is not all alone either: Mr. Wiggels, a worm-like creature with a human head and top hat , also a clone of Dr. Funkenstein, stand by his side. Sir Nose claims this time around that he's too cool to swim and will never learn to swim. With the song Aqua Boogie, however, he falls back on funk.

Big Bang Theory

Sir Nose tries again on the album Gloryhallastoopid (1979), but this time he is thwarted by the Big Bang theory. This says that the radio keeps the entire universe in motion.

Sir Nose Jr.

Sir Nose appears one last time on the album Trombipulation (1980). Now, on the other hand, he is leading his people, the Cro-Nasal Sapiens, back to the pyramids and learning about his own origins, influenced by funk. His son, Sir Nose Jr., swears his loyalty to funk forever .
