Collier Brown Jr. (born October 14, 1969 in Detroit , Michigan ), better known as PJ Brown , is a retired American basketball player. Brown was selected in the second round of the 1992 NBA Draft with the 29th pick by the New Jersey Nets . He did not begin his NBA career until the 1993/1994 season. He was elected to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team three times , in 1997, 1999 and 2001. He also won the 2004 NBA Sportsmanship Award .

college

Brown played for Louisiana Tech University for four years , averaging 10.1 points and 8.4 rebounds in a total of 121 games. He left Louisiana Tech with the college's second-most blocks (241) and fifth-most rebounds (1,107) .

NBA

Panionios Forthnet and New Jersey Nets

After he played his first year after college at Panionios Forthnet and averaged 17 points, 13.3 rebounds and 3.2 blocks, he ran the next three seasons in 240 games, in which he started 198 times, for the New Jersey Nets on. On average, he achieved 8.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.37 blocks in 30.7 minutes per game. He also played four games for the Nets in the 1994 playoffs.

Miami Heat

Brown played for the Heat four seasons , starting in 275 of 284 games. He came up with an average of 9.9 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.07 blocks in 31.2 minutes per game. In 1997 he also won the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award and was elected to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team for the first time . The second nomination followed in the 1998/99 season . In the Heat he started in all of his 35 playoff games.

Charlotte / New Orleans Hornets

On August 1, 2000, Brown was traded in a huge deal with Jamal Mashburn , Otis Thorpe , Tim James and Rodney Buford for Eddie Jones , Anthony Mason , Dale Ellis and Ricky Davis to the then Charlotte Hornets . In his second season with the Hornets, he was elected to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team for the third and final time in his career . By the 2006/07 season Brown completed 999 games in the regular season, in which 941 started. At the time, he was one of 26 players in NBA history to record 8,000 points, 7,000 rebounds, 1,000 assists and 1,000 blocks.

Chicago Bulls

On July 13, 2006, Brown was traded to the Chicago Bulls with JR Smith for center Tyson Chandler . With his experience, he supported the rather young team with an average of 20.2 minutes playing time.

Boston Celtics

After the 2006–07 season , Brown did not sign with any team despite a few offers, but considered continuing his career into the 2007–08 season . On February 27, 2008, after some persuasion from his future teammates Ray Allen and Paul Pierce, he signed with the Boston Celtics to strengthen their front court. His comeback took place on March 7, 2008 against his former team, the Chicago Bulls. With the Celtics, Brown won the NBA championship at the end of his career.
