As far as possible and customary, SI units are used. Unless otherwise noted, the data given apply to standard conditions .

Perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (short name PFHxS ) is a chemical compound from the group of long-chain perfluorosulfonic acids . Their anion , the perfluorohexanesulfonate, is important.

Perfluorohexanesulfonate is produced by electrochemical fluorination . In contrast to the related perfluorohexanoic acid , but analogous to the longer-chain perfluorooctanesulfonic acid , perfluorohexanesulfonic acid is bioaccumulative . Up to 2014 only one study on the toxicological effects was known. This shows no negative effects, although the scope of the study does not allow a final assessment. PFHxS has been nominated for inclusion in the Stockholm Convention . In 2017, PFHxS was included in the candidate list according to the REACH regulation and the Federal Environment Agency recommended a drinking water conductivity of 0.1 µg / l. In 2019, it was proposed to include it in the substance in Annex XVII of the REACH regulation; The European Chemicals Agency will form an opinion on this by mid-2020. Impairment of the liver and the immune response, shown as a decreased antibody response to vaccines, are now known as possible effects on humans.

The connection was z. B. contained in the impregnation agent Scotchgard .
