Lists on the subject

The PKP "Petscheneg" ( Russian Печенег ) is a light Russian machine gun (LMG) in the caliber of 7.62 x 54 mm R . The Petscheneg is a variant of the universal machine gun PKM . The name comes from the Pechenegs , an Oghuz Turkic people who lived in the steppes of today's southern Russia and Ukraine.

The Pecheneg is used by the Russian army , paratroopers and the spetsnaz .

construction

The Petscheneg was derived as a light machine gun from the universal machine gun PKM. Closure, functionality and belt feed are identical. It is around 1.2 kg heavier than the PKM in the IMG role with bipod. The main structural difference between PKM and Petscheneg is the lack of a quick-change barrel. The barrel of the PKP is made of high quality steel and is heavier than that of the PKM. According to the manufacturer, the barrel can now withstand 600 rounds of continuous fire. This made it possible to dispense with the barrel change option and the second barrel change. The barrel has radial cooling ribs that are enclosed by a steel jacket that extends to the muzzle. This causes forced air cooling similar to that of the Lewis MG . In contrast to the PKM, the Petscheneg's bipod is fixed near the muzzle instead of being detachable on the gas pipe. The use of the tripod mount of the PKM is theoretically possible because the mount integrated in the system box is identical. However, the PKP is only issued with the integrated bipod.

The most noticeable distinguishing feature is the large curved handle that extends from the system to the gas pipe tap. The handle has a wide shape and is intended to reduce the shimmering of the air when the barrel is hot, which increases target accuracy.

On the left side of the system box there is a mounting rail to which various optics and night vision devices can be attached. This makes the Petscheneg suitable for night combat.
