PREFA Aluminumprodukte GmbH develops, produces and sells roof and facade systems made of aluminum throughout Europe. The company's headquarters are in Marktl, a town in the Lower Austrian municipality of Lilienfeld in the Traisental .
The company is part of the Cornelius Grupp group of companies . PREFA employs over 500 people and produces exclusively in the factories in Marktl ( Austria ) and Wasungen ( Germany ). PREFA is active in 23 countries across Europe .
history
The name is an acronym for the invention of Alois Gödl. In 1946 the master plumber and roofer guild from Salzburg developed a roofing system made of pressed aluminum plates that are connected to one another by seams - in short, ' Pre ss- Fa lz-Platte'.
In 1946 the first PREFA roof panel was produced based on the patent from Alois Gödl.
Production was taken over in 1955 by the Fried.v.Neuman zinc and aluminum rolling mill in Marktl. Despite a good increase in sales, the Fried.v.Neuman plant had to register the settlement at the turn of the year 1980/81 and was close to bankruptcy . For this reason, the takeover by the German group TUBEX took place on February 5, 1981 under the management of Cornelius Grupp .
Five years later (1986) the production area was spun off from Fried.v.Neuman Ges.mbH and PREFA Aluminumprodukte GmbH was founded. In the meantime Fried.v.Neuman Ges.mbH has become Neuman Aluminum Ges.mbH with which there is still close cooperation.
In 1991 a warehouse was opened in Wasungen , Thuringia .
In 1998, a production plant (PREFA GmbH Alu- Dächer & -Fassaden) was built in Wasungen and a partner company was set up in Switzerland.
In 2001 the slogan The Roof, Strong as a Bull! and created the company logo .
In 2004 a subsidiary was founded in the Czech Republic. One year later, the company expanded to Hungary and Poland: the sales companies PREFA Hungary ( Prefa Hungária Kft. Budaörs ) and Poland ( Prefa Polska Sp. Z oo , Warsaw ) were established.
In 2005 the PREFA Academy was founded, in which plumbers and roofers are trained in the products and their processing. Around 3,500 craftsmen are trained in Austria and Germany every year.
In 2010 a matt coating with the name "P.10" was ready for the market, which is particularly UV, color and weather resistant. With this offer, more architects and planners became aware of PREFA.
In 2018, PREFA launched the partner platform. The online platform connects builders with plumbers and roofers in the area and arranges specific orders.
Today, PREFA products are not only used in the construction and renovation of classic single-family houses, but also in mountain huts or in landmarks and new architecture projects all over the world.
Products
The PREFA product range comprises over 4,000 items. These are produced exclusively in Marktl near Lilienfeld , St. Pölten ( Lower Austria ) and Wasungen ( Thuringia , Germany). Offered are aluminum complete systems in the areas of roofing , cladding , roof drainage, flood protection and solar installation.
All PREFA products are made of aluminum. Aluminum can be 100% recycled infinitely often and only requires 5% of the energy used in the original production. PREFA mostly uses secondary aluminum, i.e. already recycled aluminum, which is further processed in further production steps. PREFA gives a 40 year material and color guarantee on its products.
Compared to a tile roof , aluminum roof panels are significantly lighter. Many designs are only partially sure-footed, so that walking boards or plates have to be placed underneath when walking on the roof.
