Pablo Argárate

Pablo Argárate (born October 29, 1962 in Córdoba , Argentina ) is an Argentine church historian . He is professor at the Institute for Ecumenical Theology, Eastern Church Orthodoxy and Patrology at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz .

Life

After the licentiate in philosophy from the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba with the Licentiate of Gabriel Biel to Soren Kierkegaard about Martin Luther: Faith and Reason in 1986 and a diploma in theology from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina in Buenos Aires in 1990 with the thesis: Maximus Confessors Mystagogia in the context of early commentaries on the liturgy , he was a lecturer in patristics, liturgy and philosophy at the theological seminaries of the dioceses of Cordoba (1995–1996), Morón (1992–1994) and Zárate (1990–1991). In 1997 he obtained his PhD with the thesis Aeikinetos Stasis: The Dynamics of Unity-Oriented Being with Maximus Confessor . He became a research assistant for church history and patrology at the theological faculty in Paderborn (1999–2001). From 2002 to 2003 he was a research associate for liturgy of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen , where he in 2003 with the work of the Holy Spirit in Symeon the New Theologian doctorate was. In Canada he was Professor of Patristics and Historical Theology at the Faculty of Theology at St. Michael's College, University of Toronto from 2003 to 2011 . In 2006 he received a tenure . Since 2011 he has been a professor at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz. In 2020 he became chairman of the "Pro Oriente" Commission for Ecumenical Encounter between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches (CEE).

He researches the history and evolution of pneumatology in early Christianity, the languages ​​and cultures of the Christian East (Armenia, Syria, Ethiopia and Egypt) and the comparison of the different ascetic and mystical traditions (Latin, Byzantine, Armenian, Coptic, Ethiopian and Syrian) ) in the patristic and the Byzantine churches. He works on publications on the history and development of pneumatology in the 4th century, the Syrian Liber Graduum, Messalianism and the Kontakia of Romanos Melodos (poetry, liturgy and theology).
