Pablo O'Higgins

Pablo Esteban O'Higgins (born March 1, 1904 in Salt Lake City , † July 16, 1983 in Mexico City ) was an American-Mexican artist.

Life

He studied at the San Diego Academy of Art from 1922 to 1923 . In 1924 he took a trip to Mexico City to study the works of Diego Rivera . There he met the revered artist himself and was his assistant from 1925 to 1927. From 1928 to 1929 he wrote a book about José Guadalupe Posada with Jean Charlot and Frances Toor . He received a scholarship to study at the Moscow Art Academy . In 1931 he returned to Mexico and founded the Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios (League of Revolutionary Writers and Artists, LEAR) with other artists . In 1937, together with Alberto Beltrán , Ángel Bracho , Leopoldo Méndez , Raúl Anguiano and other artists, he founded the Taller de Gráfica Popular (workshop of folk graphic artists , TGP). In 1959, O'Higgins married the lawyer María de Jesús de la Fuente . He received the Mexican citizenship. In 1962 he took part in the Latin American Congress in Cuba . The murals created by O'Higgins can be found in Mexico City, Morelia , Moscow, Seattle , San Francisco and Honolulu .
