Paco Knöller

Paco Knöller (born August 29, 1950 in Obermarchtal ) is a German artist . He lives and works in Berlin . From 2001 to 2013 he was a professor at the University of the Arts in Bremen .

biography

Knöller studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1972 to 1978 . In 1987 he moved to Berlin. In 2001 he took up a professorship at the Bremen University of the Arts; in the same year he received the Upper Swabian Art Prize . In 2008 he designed the entrance area of ​​the newly opened Dieselkraftwerk art museum in Cottbus . The four-wing south portal was provided with a work by Paco Knöller printed on glass.

Knöller developed an independent position in the field of contemporary art. In addition to large-format works on paper, intensive depictions in oil pastel on wooden supports have been created in recent years, in which the human body or its fragments such as the head often occupy important positions. Knöller has been one of the most important draftsmen of his generation since the 1980s.
