The Painted Peak (English for painted peak ) is a mountain in the north of the East Antarctic Victoria Land . In the Freyberg Mountains it rises in the northern part of the Russet Hills in the Gallipoli Heights .

The descriptive naming was made by the New Zealand Antarctic Place-Names Committee at the suggestion of the geologist P. J. Oliver, who explored the mountain between 1981 and 1982 as part of the New Zealand Antarctic Research Program . It is named after the multi-layered coloring with ignimbrite rock and breccias made of dacite , which make up the mountain and which are interspersed with dykes made of andesite .
