The Palais Bluff is a 400 m high cliff in the northwest of the Antarctic Ross Island . It rises above Wohlschlag Bay between the mouth of Shearwater Glacier and Quaternary Icefall .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the cliff in 2000 at the suggestion of New Zealand geochemist Philip Raymond Kyle after Julie Michelle Palais (* 1956), program manager for glaciology in the Office for Polar Programs of the National Science Foundation , who was a doctoral student at Ohio State University in glaciological and volcanological studies Was involved in studies on Ross Island.
