Palazzo delle Albere
The Palazzo delle Albere is a Renaissance - palace in Trento .
history
The palace was built by the Counts of Madruzzo , although the sources are uncertain whether the construction was started as early as 1530 by Giovanni Gaudenzio Madruzzo or whether it was only his son, the Prince-Bishop of Trento, Cristoforo Madruzzo , who hosted the Council of Trento around 1550 has rebuilt for the occasion. In any case, after the death of the fourth and last Madruzzo on the Trento bishopric, it did not fall to the private heirs, but to the Church of Trento, which speaks for the second variant.
description
Originally the route from Trientiner's main square to the palace led through a splendid avenue after passing the no longer existing city gate . Today the access road is interrupted and you have to cross a railway line. The palace has four corner towers, each 20 meters high, a magnificently designed facade and frescoes inside. Today it is located on the outskirts of Trento and can be reached on foot in around 20 minutes from Palazzo Pretorio .
From 1987 to 2010 the Trento department of the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto MART was housed here. After the renovation in 2011, the building is now used as an exhibition space for changing special exhibitions.
