Palca is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Palca is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Palca and the administrative seat of the province of Murillo . The village is located at an altitude of 3465 m on the eastern edge of the Bolivian Altiplano , halfway between the capital La Paz and the Illimani , on the left bank of the Río Choquecota , which flows into the Río Palca .

Palca is located on the edge of the Quimsa Cruz massif , which is part of the Bolivian Cordillera Real . The region's climate is typical of the time of day , in which the daily fluctuation in temperatures is more pronounced than the mean temperature differences in the seasons.
The mean average temperature of the region is around 8 ° C (see climate diagram Palca) and fluctuates only slightly between 6 ° C in June / July and 10 ° C in November. The annual precipitation is around 600 mm, with a pronounced dry season from May to August with monthly precipitation below 15 mm, and a precipitation maximum in January of 120 mm.
Transport network
Palca is located 20 km south-east of La Paz and is connected to the capital by a dirt road. The road leads through the Palca Cañon, which with its bizarre reddish-brown rock formations resembles Bryce Canyon in the USA.

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the Municipio Palca 94.1 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
