Pallbearer is an American doom metal - band from Little Rock , Arkansas , which was founded in the year of 2008.

history

After the members had previously played in various other groups, they formed the band Pallbearer in 2008. The band developed the first songs and released a first demo in 2010, which was followed by the debut album Sorrow and Extinction via Profound Lore Records in February 2012 . That same year the band played on pitchfork.com's No Mercy Austin Party show on South by Southwest with Rwake , The Atlas Moth , Black Tusk , Deafheaven , KEN mode , Pilgrim and Mutilatio Rites . In 2013 the band played at various festivals such as the South by Southwest, Heavy MTL , Roadburn Festival , Hellfest and Scion Rock Fest . In September and October 2014 the band went on a European tour with Yob . After that, a US tour is planned together with Tombs and Vattnet Viskar . In the same year, the album Foundations of Burden was released , which was produced by Billy Anderson .

style

According to Andreas Schiffmann, the band plays progressive Doom Metal, which often breaks the ten-minute mark per song. In an interview with Schiffmann, bassist Joseph D. Rowland stated that the band does not necessarily see itself as a Doom Metal group, but that they cannot deny influences from bands like Rwake. He himself finds the term "Heavy Prog" apt. Foundations of Burden is thematically broader than its predecessor. He wrote half of the songs, while guitarist and singer Brett Campbell did the other. Rowland does not know what Campbell mean by certain passages of text, as there is hardly any exchange within the band. On the second album, the band tried to become rhythmically more flexible and faster. The song The Ghost I Used to Be is about a dream by Rowland, in which a ghost wanted to guide him and show him something and eventually both of them switched roles. He is influenced by New Age , Artrock , Krautrock , as well as King Crimson , Camel and Premiata Forneria Marconi , while Campbell is influenced by Robin Trower . The band wants to distance itself from the typical metal sound and rely on natural distortion, which sounds "dirtier and at the same time clearer" than when using a distortion device. The opposite is for him Electric Wizards Come My Fanatics , in which the band works with riffs instead of harmonies. According to Jeremy Ulrey of metalinjection.net , the band was comparable on the debut album, while on Foundations of Burden they were more comparable to the first two Pilgrim releases. Foundations of Burden also concentrate less on the atmosphere compared to its predecessor.
