Heavy MONTRÉAL
Heavy MONTRÉAL (before 2014 Heavy MTL ) is a three-day open-air festival for metal and hard rock in the Canadian city of Montreal . It takes place every year on the first weekend in August at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Île Sainte-Hélène , an island in the Saint Lawrence River east of the city center.
history
The first event was in 2008 and attracted 36,000 visitors. In 2009 the organizers canceled the festival because this year numerous metal bands stopped on their tours in Montreal and there was thus an oversupply. The festival has been held annually since 2010 and now attracts over 70,000 visitors. In 2014 the name was changed from Heavy MTL to Heavy MONTRÉAL, at the same time the festival was extended from two to three days. In 2017 the festival did not take place.
