history

Counterparts was founded in 2007 in Hamilton , Ontario by Brendan Murphy ( vocals ), Jesse Doreen ( electric guitar ), Chris Washik (electric guitar), Eric Bazinet ( electric bass ) and Ryan Juntilla ( drums ) . Washik left the group in mid-2009 and was initially replaced sporadically by Alex Re on guitar. He was later firmly integrated into the band.

In March 2009 Counterparts toured Canada . In 2010 Shane Told , a singer with Silverstein , signed the group to his own label Verona Records . Brendan Murphy can be heard as a guest musician on Silverstein's album Rescue in The Artist .

On February 23, 2010, the debut album was released under the title Prophets on Verona Records. At the CD release party, the group played with Structures, among others . In the same year a split EP was released with the hardcore band Exalt . It was the last release with drummer Ryan Juntilla. He left the group that same year and was replaced by Chris Needham. The group toured North America to promote their album.

In spring 2011 the group signed with Victory Records . The musicians played concert tours into the summer. Needham, who replaced Juntilla as drummer last year, left the group. The reason for this was that he was undergoing speech therapy. After a lengthy but unsuccessful search, Ryan Juntilla got back in, even before studio work on the second album began. The second album, The Current Will Carry Us , was released on October 24, 2011. The album received mostly positive reviews, including on Exclaim! , The Aquarian Weekly , and in Rock Sound .

Kyle Brownlee, former drummer in the deathcore band Majesty, replaced Juntilla from summer 2012 for the band's other tours. Counterparts announced Juntilla's exit from the band because he no longer wanted to be part of the band. It was announced in the same statement that Kelly Bilan - formerly active in I Am Committing a Sin and Dead and Divine - was accepted as the new drummer in the group.

On July 24, 2013, The Difference Between Hell and Home was the group's third studio album. In autumn 2013, Alex Re announced the exit from the band. He only played the last shows in December 2013. In the meantime, Adrian Lee helped the group as a session musician on the band's other concert tours. Lee was also part of the band's guitarist on the European tour in February and March 2014 with Hundredth , Being as an Ocean and Polar .

On April 23, 2015 it was announced that the band had signed record deals with Pure Noise Records and New Damage to release their new album, which is due to be released in summer 2015. From March 27, 2015 to April 28, 2015, the group is touring the United States with Hotel Books , Capsize and Better Off as a support act for Defeater .

On September 22nd, 2016 it was announced that drummer Kelly Bilan will leave the band. Kyle Brownlee will temporarily be helping out again.

In early 2019 the band announced that they were working on a new album. This is expected to be released under the name Nothing Left to Love at the end of 2019.
