Nashville Pussy is an American hard rock and heavy metal band from Atlanta , Georgia . It was founded in 1996 by Blaine Cartwright and his wife Ruyter Suys as Hell's Half Acre .
The band's music is characterized by a mixture of hard rock and heavy metal with influences from southern and punk rock as well as rockabilly .
Band history
Nashville Pussy was founded in 1996 by Blaine Cartwright and his wife Ruyter Suys as Hell's Half Acre , but was renamed Nashville Pussy before the debut album was released in 1998 . Cartwright previously played as a guitarist in the cowpunk band Nine Pound Hammer , which broke up in 1988. Other founding members were drummer Adam Neil and bassist Corey Parks, sister of NBA basketball player Cherokee Parks . Both left the band around 2000 and were replaced by new musicians. The band was named after the introduction to the song Wang Dang Sweet Poontang on the album Double Live Gonzo by Ted Nugent .
The lyrics mostly revolve around wine, women and song . Suys emphasizes that Cartwright's provocative remarks on sex, politics and religion are primarily about "the right to freedom of expression". She describes herself as a feminist: “I am a product of the bra burning generation . I am a sixth wave feminist . If my mother hadn't burned her bra in 1967, I wasn't playing in a band called Nashville Pussy today. "
Debut Let Them Eat Pussy and hit album High As Hell
In 1998 Nashville Pussy released the first album under the title Let Them Eat Pussy on the Amphetamine Reptile Records label in small numbers; after the sale, the album was reissued in larger numbers on Mercury Records . In the same year the band went on tour with Marilyn Manson . With the song Fried Chicken And Coffee from the album, the band was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance 1999, together with Rage Against the Machine , Judas Priest , Rammstein and Metallica ; the latter received the award for their song Better Than You .
In 2000 the second album High As Hell followed with cover versions of Rock'n'Roll Outlaw by Rose Tattoo, among others . After the release, Corey Parks and Adam Neil left the band; the latter to found the band The Hookers. Jeremy Thompson was accepted as the new drummer, and Tracy Almazan aka Tracy Kickass joined the band, which previously played with The Wives and Helldorado, as the new bass player. Together with her, the band played a cover version of the Molly Hatchet song Flirtin 'With Disaster for the film Run, Ronnie, Run , in which Blaine Cartwright got a role. Nashville Pussy accompanied the bands Slayer , Slipknot , Sevendust and a few others on the 'Tattoo The Earth' tour and then went on tour with the Suicidal Tendencies and with Lynyrd Skynyrd .
Say Something Nasty to this day
The band also recorded their third album, Say Something Nasty in 2002, with Tracy Almazan, before they too left and was replaced by Katie Lynn Campbell, formerly with Famous Monsters; although she has not yet played on the album, Katie Lynn is featured on the album cover. Tours with Black Label Society and Artimus Pyledriver followed until 2004 , after which Katie Lynn Campbell left the band, and the record contract also expired. In 2005 the new album Get Some was released on Spitfire Records , including a cover version of Tina Turner's Nutbush City Limits , and Karen Exley (Cuda) could be won as the new bass player. The DVD Live In Hollywood was released at the end of September 2008 .
For the album From Hell to Texas , which was released in early 2009, Lemmy Kilmister ( Motörhead ) and Willie Nelson could be won as backing singers for the song Lazy Jesus , while Danko Jones was the guest singer for the southern rock song I'm So High sang along.
