Saint Asonia (proper spelling: SΔINT ΔSONIΔ) is a Canadian rock band from Toronto . The members are or were active in bands like Three Days Grace , Staind or Finger Eleven , which is why Saint Asonia is also known as a supergroup .

Foundation and first album

In December 2012 the singer Adam Gontier left the band Three Days Grace. A short time later Gontier was contacted by the guitarist Mike Mushok , whose band Staind was currently inactive and in the meantime played in the band Newsted . Originally, the two musicians only wanted to write music together. However, when they had completed 15 songs, Gontier and Mushok decided in 2015 to form a band. Rich Beddoe, who left the band Finger Eleven at the end of 2013, was hired for the drums . Corey Lowery took over the bass and played for Stuck Mojo , Stereomud and Dark New Day , among others .

Together with producer Johnny K , Saint Asonia recorded their debut album. On May 16, 2015, the band released their first single, Better Place, and played their first concert at the Rock on the Range festival in Columbus . On July 31, 2015, the band released their self-titled debut album, which entered the Canadian album charts at number nine and number 29 on the US album charts. After a short headlining tour of their own in August 2015, a tour in the opening act of Seether followed in October . At the 2015 Loudwire Music Awards , Saint Asonia was named Best New Band.
Saint Asonia received a nomination at the Canadian Radio Music Awards in the category Best New Group or Solo Artist: Mainstream Rock . However, the price went to standstills . In the summer of 2016, Saint Asonia played a North American tour and opened together with Alter Bridge for the two headliners Disturbed and Breaking Benjamin . The band also played at the Heavy MONTRÉAL , Carolina Rebellion , Louder Than Life and Chicago Open Air festivals and released a cover version of Phil Collins' song I Don't Care Anymore .
Flawed design
In the summer of 2017, the drummer Rich Beddoe left the band and was replaced by Sal Giancarelli from the band Staind. A year later, bassist Corey Lowery left Saint Asonia to join the band Seether. His successor was Cale Gontier from the band Art of Dying , who is also the cousin of the singer Adam Gontier. Saint Asonia changed record labels and signed a new contract with Spinefarm Records . In early 2019, work began on the second studio album, which was produced by Brian Sperber. The album with the title Flawed Design was released on October 25, 2019. Sully Erna from the band Godsmack is the guest singer on the first single The Hunted . Other guest singers are Sharon den Adel ( Within Temptation ) and Dustin Bates ( Starset ). Flawed Design reached number 68 on the Canadian album charts and number 171 on the US album charts.
In spring and summer 2020, Saint Asonia should initially go on a North American tour together with Alter Bridge and Black Stone Cherry . This was to be followed by another North American tour with headliners Breaking Benjamin as well as Bush , Theory of a Deadman and Cory Marks . However, both tours have been postponed or canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
