Michael "Mike" Mushok (born April 10, 1970 in Ludlow ) is an American guitarist . He is the lead guitarist of Staind and Saint Asonia and a former member of Newsted .

Career

Mike Mushok began playing an acoustic guitar at the age of six and was influenced by folk musicians such as James Taylor , Harry Chapin and Jim Croce . When he was twelve, he switched to the electric guitar after discovering bands like Led Zeppelin and Van Halen . Mushok took guitar lessons from Tony MacAlpine . Mushok named Eddie Van Halen , Jimi Hendrix , Stevie Ray Vaughan and Dimebag Darrell as other influences .

Mushok was one of the founding members of the band Staind in 1995, with whom he released seven albums. Three of these albums reached number one on the US album charts. In total, the band was able to sell over 15 million albums worldwide. The music video for their single It's Been Awhile was nominated for Best Rock Video at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards , but the award went to Limp Bizkit . Staind have been inactive since 2012 with brief interruptions.

In 2013, Mushok joined the band Newsted by former Metallica - bassist Jason Newsted was founded. The band Newsted released an EP and a studio album and was nominated for Best New Band at the 2013 Loudwire Music Awards . However, the award went to the band Device In early 2014, Jason Newsted disbanded the band.

Since the beginning of 2013, Mushok has been working with Adam Gontier , the former singer of the band Three Days Grace . Two years later it became the band Saint Asonia, who released their debut album that same year. At the 2015 Loudwire Music Awards, Saint Asonia was recognized in the Best New Band category. Four years later, the second studio album Flawed Design followed .

Mike Mushok is married and has two children.
