Lazarus AD was an American thrash metal band from Kenosha , Wisconsin . The band was founded in 2005 as Lazarus and was signed to Metal Blade Records . The band's discography includes two studio albums .

history

The band was founded in spring 2005 under the name Lazarus . The letters AD were added later to avoid litigation. Founding members included singer and bassist Jeff Paulick and guitarists Dan Gapen and Alex Lackner. A short time later, the drummer Ryan Shutler joined. After the band played their first concert as a trio , guitarist Alex Lackner completed the band. After a few more concerts, Lazarus AD released a demo with three songs in 2006 . In the summer of 2006, the band played in the opening act for Anthrax , before further concerts in the American Midwest followed. In January 2007, the band began work on their debut album, The Onslaught , which by Chris Djuricic produced was. Since no record label showed interest in a release, the band released the album on their own. The mastering was done by James Murphy . About 1,000 copies were sold within a very short time. In spring 2008 Earache Records released the sampler Thrashing Like a Maniac , on which Lazarus AD was represented with the song Last Breath . Lazarus AD were the only band without a contract on this compilation.

In the summer of 2008 the band signed a contract with Metal Blade Records. The album The Onslaught was remixed by James Murphy and re-released worldwide with another cover in spring 2009 . The album received good reviews and was placed on a list of 250 Thrash Metal albums to be known by German magazine Rock Hard . Lazarus AD played their first US tour together with Goatwhore and Skeletonwitch in support of Amon Amarth . Another tour followed with Unearth in the opening act for Testament . On October 18, 2009, the band played their first concert in Japan at the Loud Park Festival . The second studio album Black River Flows was recorded in July and August 2010 with producer Chris Wisco. The mixing and mastering took James Murphy again. The album was released on January 28, 2011. After the release, Lazarus AD played a US tour with Death Angel and Bonded by Blood . In May 2015, drummer Ryan Shutler passed away. A short time later the band broke up.

style

The musical style of Lazarus AD was usually referred to as Thrash Metal, occasionally Groove Metal . The musicians Metallica , Testament and Pantera are among the greatest musical influences . Smaller influences come from bands like Slayer , Exodus or Megadeth . The tempo is usually high and is interrupted by slower parts. In his lyrics, singer Jeff Paulick deals with personal experiences.
