Rwake is an American sludge band from Little Rock , Arkansas that was founded in 1996 under the name Wake .

history

The band was founded in 1996 under the name Wake and consisted of singer Chris Terry, guitarists Chuck Schaaf and Gravy, bassist Reid Raley, B ( Moog synthesizer , vocals , samples ) and drummer Jeff Morgan. In September 1997 the band recorded their first songs, which was followed by the first demo Xenoglossalgia: The Last Stage of Awareness a little later . In addition, the band held their first appearances and played outside of Arkansas. In December 1999 the band recorded their debut album under the direction of Steve Austin ( Today Is the Day ). The album was rarely distributed, however, so it was distributed as a self-made CD-R mainly during touring . In the following years the band held various performances and also worked on new songs. In 2002 the band recorded the album Hell Is the Door to the Sun , which was released on Retribute Records that same year . The album was released on a tour through North America with Alabama Thunderpussy . In 2004 the band went to Volume Studios with producer Sanford Parker of the band Minsk for the next album If You Walk Before You Crawl You Crawl Before You Die , which was released through At A Loss Recordings . Appearances with Weedeater , Mastodon , High on Fire , The Hidden Hand and Meatjack followed . In January 2006 the band signed a contract with Relapse Records . The band then played at the SXSW Music Festival before heading back to Parker's Volume Studios to record the album Voices of Omens . The album was released in February 2007 before the band went on tour with Minsk in April. The rest of the year, as well as in 2008, the band went on a world tour. In 2011 the album Rest was released via Relapse Records . In May 2015, the band released a Brad Boatright remastered version of their first demo Xenoglossalgia: The Last Stage of Awareness on the same label .

style

According to laut.de , the band moves in the Doom Metal and Sludge area and drew comparisons to bands like EyeHateGod and Buzzov • en . Robert Müller from Metal Hammer assigned the music on Voices of Omens to the two genres and noted influences from bands such as Neurosis and EyeHateGod. Thorsten Zahn from the same magazine also assigned the album Rest to Sludge and Doom Metal and described the music as “ riff swirls from Neurosis, Iron Maiden and the Melvins ”. The singing of singer B is bloodcurdling, with the songs that break the ten-minute mark, not for in between.
