Minsk is an American stoner doom metal band from Peoria and Chicago , Illinois , that was formed in 2002.

history

The band was formed in 2002 and consisted of singer and keyboardist Tim Mead, guitarist Chris Bennett, bassist Jeff Hyde and drummer Anthony Couri. This was followed by a first demo and appearances on the west coast of the United States . Meanwhile, bassist Hyde left the band and was replaced by Joel Madigan, who was only supposed to help out with the band live. This was followed by further local appearances and in 2004 participation in the Templars of Doom Festival. The band could also be heard on the compilation If It Plays . In early 2005 the band recorded their debut album Out of a Center Which Is Neither Dead Nor Alive at Volume Studios with producer Sanford Parker . Parker took over the bass during the recordings and remained a permanent member of the band. The album was released in the same year through At A Loss Recordings . In 2006, performances all over the USA followed along with groups such as Brutal Truth , High on Fire , Boris , Sunn O))) , Torche , Pig Destroyer , Rwake , Asschapel and Baroness . The band also took part in the South by Southwest and the Monolith Festival. In the middle of the year the band signed a contract with Relapse Records .

In the summer and autumn, the band then worked on their album The Ritual Fires of Abandonment in Volume Studios again under the direction of Sanford Parker. The album was released in 2007. In the same year the band again participated in South by Southwest and held a tour of the east coast of the United States with Rwake after they had previously played with Bible of the Devil . After further appearances together with Trouble followed a tour through Europe , before the album With Echoes in the Movement of Stone followed in early June 2009 .

style

Laut.de described the music as a mixture of Doom Metal and Psychedelic Rock of the 1970s and made comparisons to groups like Neurosis and Mastodon . Christian Hector from Metal Hammer also classified the album The Ritual Fires of Abandonment in a similar way , with the bass and the electric guitar being extremely distorted. With Echoes in the Movement of Stone has little in common with its predecessor, although the arrangements would sound “stiff” and the vocals “strange”.
