After the first demo was released under the name Sonic Burial Hymns , the label Southern Lord became aware of the band, about which the single Lord Humanless Awakens / Summoning The Beast was released. In 2001, the band separated from their drummer Pete McCoil, who was replaced by Darren "Vril" Verni. In the following year a tour through the USA followed with Electric Wizard . On the tour, the band released the demo Hadit , before the single Frost Walk With Me / Vitriolic Veracity Vs. via Parasitic Records. the Vortex , recorded under the direction of Stephen O'Malley ( Sunn O))) ). In the fall of 2003, the debut album Season of Séance, Science of Silence was released via Rise Above Records . In North America , the album was released via The Music Cartel , while the limited vinyl version was released on Parasitic Records. The second album In the Red was released in November 2004 through Rise Above Records in Europe . The phonogram was recorded at Volume Studios in Chicago under the direction of Sanford Parker . This was followed by appearances with Morbid Angel , Pelican , Sunn O))), Warhorse , Om , Grief , Floor and Comets on Fire . The third album The Trident was released in April 2006 via Relapse Records . The album was re-recorded under the direction of Sanford Parker. The recordings for this took place mainly in Steve Albini's Electrical Audio Studios . In 2006 and 2007, the band held various appearances and also held a month-long European tour. In the second half of 2007, the band again contacted Sanford Parker to record the album Electrocution at Volume Studios. The album was released in 2008, followed by album V in 2010 . In 2012 the band announced their breakup, but after three years they reunited and in 2017 they released another album with Stalking the Ghost .

style

According to Gunnar Sauermann from Metal Hammer “Unearthly Trance partly combine the leaden heaviness of Doom with the aggressive force of Hardcore and a heap of psychedelic elements” on the album The Trident . The guttural vocals are extremely aggressive for a Doom Metal band. Sauermann drew comparisons to groups like Sunn O))), Neurosis and High on Fire . According to Robert Müller from Metal Hammer , the band on Electrocution is not a copy of Black Sabbath , but rather a mixture of groups like The Melvins , High on Fire and a little Bathory . On album V, according to Melanie Aschenbrenner from Metal Hammer, the band play a slow mixture of Sludge and Doom Metal, which sounds intentionally monotonous after the eighth song at the latest.
