Palomar 1 is a globular cluster in the constellation Cepheus in the northern sky. It is an estimated 35,000 light-years from the solar system on the outskirts of the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 30 ly.
With an age of 6.3 to 8 billion years, it is younger than other globular clusters in the Milky Way. The heap has a high metallicity with [Fe / H] = −0.60.
It is assumed that Palomar 1 has a similar history of formation to globular clusters from the Sagittarius dwarf galaxy , for example Terzan 7 , and that it also originates from this and was snatched from it by tidal forces.
The object was discovered in 1954 by the astronomer George Ogden Abell in the images of the Palomar Observatory Sky Survey , and cataloged as a globular cluster.
