Pannonian climate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Pannonian climate is a type of climate in Central Europe that is characteristic of the Pannonian Plain . It is a typical continental climate of the temperate zone , but as a pan framed on all sides by high mountains with the simultaneous proximity of two maritime climates (the Mediterranean and the Black Sea ), it has some peculiarities. It turns out to be a relatively warm and dry climate for Europe; the winters can be quite cold due to continental influences, but are also dry. A typical peculiarity is the Vb weather situation , a southerly damming of a migrated Mediterranean low on the Carpathian arch, which brings enormous amounts of rain in the Carpathians, Sudetes, Bohemian Massif and the Eastern Alps, but primarily affects the Pannonian core area itself through the floods on the Danube and Tisza flowing together from the edges . The Pannonian climate has a strong influence on the Pannonian flora .

Austria

The Austrian Geographical Society describes (1983) four Austrian climate provinces:

  1. Alpine climate ,
  2. Atlantic dominated climate ( Central European transitional climate , as a peripheral zone in the northern damming of the Alps),
  3. Pannonian climate as well
  4. Illyrian climate .

The Pannonian climate in Austria is further subdivided:

  • Pannonian climate province: Weinviertel , eastern foothills of the Alps , Vienna Basin , northern Burgenland ; Large annual amplitude, dry summer climates, January mean below −1 ° C, annual rainfall around 700 mm, rich in radiation.
  • Pannonian highland climate: Waldviertel ; thermally and hygric continental climate with high daily amplitudes; Temperature mean lower due to the altitude, strong winter cooling (January mean down to −6 ° C, openness to polar cold air ingress ), strong summer warming, pronounced dryness.
  • Special climate: Neusiedlersee ; Rooms favored by high hygric oceanity with sunshine duration of around 2000 hours.
  • Areas of pronounced oceanity : parts of the Weinviertel, thermal line

Southeast Styria , which is already part of the Illyrian zone under the influence of the Mediterranean climate , and the northern damming of the Alps, for example in the Bregenz Forest or the Salzkammergut, are oceanic in Austria .
