Paolo Daniel Cardozo (born June 9, 1989 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan football player in the position of an attacking midfielder who can be used on both wings and as a striker .

Career

Career start in Argentina

After he was born in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay, Cardozo spent a large part of his childhood there before he and his family moved to neighboring Argentina , where his family still lives in poorer circumstances in Buenos Aires . There he finally began his active career as a football player when he was accepted by the youth department of the traditional Argentinian club CA River Plate . He spent a considerable part of his youth career at the internationally known training club, where he was mostly trained as a central or attacking midfielder , but was already used as a striker at that time . After a sometimes quite successful time at River Plate, there was a dispute between Cardozo and some of the club's managers in 2008, who did not want to release him for a trial training session with a French second division team . After a short absence from a club, he moved to the reserve team of today's Argentine first division club Quilmes AC in 2009 at the age of 19 . The native Uruguayan established himself in the club's second combat team, sometimes with the help and support of more experienced players, such as B. the veteran Facundo Sava , quickly and even advanced to one of the most dangerous players in the squad. There were also numerous successes that he celebrated with the Quilmes reserve. Due to his consistently solid performance in the reserve team, Cardozo was allowed to train early on with the club's professional team and was finally brought into the professional squad for a competitive game for the first time on January 31, 2010. He finally made his professional debut in the 4-0 away defeat against Boca Unidos when he came on the lawn for Mauricio Carrasco in the 68th minute of play . The game played in the 20th round was the only one in Cardozo's professional career with Quilmes. At the end of the championship he managed with the team in second place with 64 points, seven points behind champion Olimpo de Bahía Blanca , direct promotion to the Primera División.

Moved to the United States

Cardozo's move to the USA made itself felt as early as 2010 . However, he was still in contact with the MLS franchise Columbus Crew , with whom he was also registered for a trial training session. However, after a move to the crew didn't work out, he was linked to the next MLS franchise, Los Angeles Galaxy , shortly thereafter in early 2011 . In this, he was finally used in various trial training units during the winter preparation period. Due to a new regulation that was only introduced in December 2010, international players who did not come from a university or college were also allowed to take part in the preparation. After good performances in the pre-season, Cardozo was drafted on January 13, 2011 at the MLS SuperDraft 2011 in the first round as the 16th pick to LA Galaxy. Before that, Cardozo did not even think of being accepted by Galaxy, where he was used in three test matches, and rather expected a draft to the crew . After being accepted into the LA Galaxy squad, Cardozo was also involved in numerous extended test matches for the team, where he was successful in several games as a goalscorer and assistant. In mid-February 2011, he finally signed his professional contract with Los Angeles Galaxy. He finally made his league debut on March 20, 2011 in a 1-1 home draw against the New England Revolution when he came on in the 63rd minute for Mike Magee . After he finally moved to Chivas in 2012, he could not convince there. At first it was used every now and then until July of that year. He was then no longer considered in the last 14 games of the season. In 2013 he moved to CS Cartaginés in Costa Rica , where he played 44 first division games (no goal) and four games (no goal) in the CONCACAF Champions League . In 2014 he won the Copa Costa Rica with the club . He has been a member of the LA Wolves squad since August 2016 .
