Pape Omar Fayé (born January 1, 1987 in Louga ) is a Senegalese football player who played in Switzerland from 2005 to 2009.

Career

The goal-scoring striker was initially under contract with the clubs CSS Richard-Toll (Senegal) and Cotonsport Garoua ( Cameroon ). In 2005 Fayé signed with the then Axpo Super League club FC Thun , where he was used during one season. For the 2006/07 season, the young Senegalese moved temporarily to FC Vaduz for a year. At the Liechtenstein club he scored twelve goals in 33 league appearances and played four UEFA Cup qualifying games (2 goals).

In 2007 the U-21 international returned from Senegal to the Bernese Oberland . With the Thuners he rose at the end of the difficult 2007/08 season for the club in the Challenge League . The striker, who until then had been very popular with those responsible, the team and the fans, remained an integral part of the team.

In the preliminary round of the 2009/10 season he scored as many goals for FC Thun in the Challenge League as in the entire previous four years and led the league's top scorer list before he was suspended by the club in November for involvement in betting fraud . The investigating authorities not only found Fayé's guilt proven - he himself had unpacked. The sentence was announced in May 2010. Pape Omar Fayé (whose contract with FC Thun had been terminated in the meantime), like three former FC Gossau players, was suspended for an indefinite period, but at least for three years.

The Bernese Oberland club won the Challenge League this season and was promoted to the Axpo Super League . In January 2011, Faye joined the Vietnamese V-League team Lam Sơn Thanh Hóa FC . In November, the Swiss Football Association applied for Fayé to be banned worldwide, which was confirmed on November 24, 2011. After the global game ban was imposed, he lived in Louga, Senegal. Fayé was pardoned after four and a half years of suspension and then returned to his former Vietnamese club.
