Papyrus Author (before 2008 Papyrus ) is a writing program for writers and at the same time an office package (hence also Papyrus Office ) from the Berlin company ROM Logicware GmbH. Today the program is offered and further developed for Windows and macOS , in the past also for Atari - TOS (since 1992) and OS / 2 (since 1995). It uses the file extension .pap .

Papyrus Author (since 2008) contains the formerly independent Papyrus Office and is aimed at writers and writers of "texts of particular importance" such as B. Diploma theses , as it aims to increase the style quality and legibility as well as the clarity of texts. It integrates the Duden corrector from Brockhaus-Duden Neue Medien GmbH and improves its error descriptions . The thesaurus combines the Duden corrector with the OpenThesaurus and therefore offers a large number of synonyms . The program also includes a style analysis based on recommendations from bestselling author Andreas Eschbach . It marks duplicate words (duplicates), excessively long sentences, filler words , adjectives that are too frequent , empty phrases and other weaknesses in style .

Another element promises a better overview of all chapters of a longer document. The navigator shows length, status, the frequency of characters and other data. Comments are possible here as well as in the text itself, on a clipboard or sticky note .

The basic version Papyrus Office (last version 17.10 from September 2, 2012, then merged into Papyrus Autor) is a combination of word processing, spreadsheet and database . It also contains desktop publishing functionalities. From version 12.5x onwards, Papyrus can also generate PDF files - either a pure PDF file or a hybrid which, in addition to being displayed in conventional PDF viewers, allows editing with Papyrus.

The menus in the user interface differ somewhat from the usual scheme, but can be adapted to the structure that is common in Microsoft Office if required.

A free restricted version of Papyrus Office was occasionally published as a supplement to computer magazines under the name Papyrus Works in the early 2000s .

The current version is available as a pro version and a business version.
