The Parco regional dell'Adamello (German Regional Park Adamello ) is a nature park in the Southern Alps in the Italian province of Brescia in Lombardy . It covers an area of 510 km² in the western Adamello group , extends from north to south between the Tonale pass and the Passo di Croce Domini , and from west to east between the Val Camonica des Oglio and the border between the provinces of Brescia and Trento . A special feature of the park is the enormous height of less than 500  m slm in the southwest in the valley of the Oglio up to a height of 3554  m slm in the summit of Monte Adamello . As a result, (almost) all climatic zones of Europe are represented in the park, from the sub-Mediterranean downy oak-hop beech forest to the arctic region.

In the east it borders directly on the Adamello-Brenta Nature Park , 621 km². Together with the other protected areas bordering directly ( Stelvio National Park , 1346 km²) and indirectly via the Stelvio National Park ( Swiss National Park , 170 km²), these 4 protected areas form one of the largest protected areas in the Alps (2647 km²), with the protection provisions depending on the park and the existing one internal zoning are different. The only competitors are the nature reserve Rieserferner-Ahrn , National Park Hohe Tauern and the quiet area of the Zillertal Alps , which are also bordered across national borders , whereby the Hohe Tauern National Park comprises a divided area.

Zoning in the park

In the Parco regional dell'Adamello there are 12 special zones, some of which are subject to stricter protection regulations and are subject to special protection and / or maintenance measures:

Fauna, projects

A diverse fauna can be found in the park, which largely corresponds to that in the neighboring Adamello-Brenta Nature Park.

Ibex , chamois , red deer and roe deer are large mammals . Occasionally an Alpine brown bear migrates from the neighboring protected area.

Eagles circling relatively often in the park, which is why a hike in the north is called Sentiero delle Aquile - Eagle Walk. Now and then a bearded vulture can be seen since a successful relocation project was carried out in the adjacent Stelvio National Park.

Of the chicken birds, snow grouse , stone grouse , black grouse and capercaillie are notable.

In addition to various cultural and cultural landscape projects, the park also carries out biological projects. One aim was the reintroduction of the ibex and led to a stable population in the southern valleys of the group between the Baitonestock and the Valle Adame. Another project aims to protect the European crayfish , whose population is endangered across Europe.

Tourist projects

The park administration maintains several fauna observation stations, for example in Val Aviolo and at Lago Baitone . There, in the park buildings and during excursions, environmental education measures are offered, especially for Italian school classes.
