The Parcul Gheorghe Doja or Parcul Plevnei is a park in the Timișoara district of Elisabetin .

description

The park is integrated as a central green area into the rectangular Piața Plevnei and is a little lower than this - accessible by stairs. It was laid out in 1903 together with the surrounding buildings. In 1957 a statue of the Hungarian farmer leader György Dózsa - in Romanian spelling Gheorghe Doja - was erected.

In 2011, extensive design work took place in the park. The avenues, the benches, the irrigation and lighting systems were renewed. There were also new plantings with trees, bushes and flower borders. A new work of art, the black and white cube, by Linda Menczel, based on a poem by Nichita Stănescu, has since represented a counterpoint to the previously dominant Doja statue.
