Park In-hwan (born August 15, 1926 in Inje , Kangwŏn-do , † March 20, 1956 ) was a South Korean poet .

Life

Park In-hwan was in on 15 August 1926 Inje , Province Kangwon born. He attended the 1st Kyŏngsŏng High School (경성 제일 고등 보통 학교) and the Pyŏngyang Medical College (평양 의 전), but failed to graduate. It was only during his time as an employee in a bookstore (마리 서사 서점) that he became acquainted with the world of poetry. In 1946 he began to write poetry himself and his work The Path (거리) was published in the same year in the newspaper Kukje Sinbo (국제 신보).

In the late 1940s, Park worked with colleagues on the publication of the journal Neue Poetik (신 시론 新 詩論) and the publication of his collection of poems Neue Stadt und Chor der Bürger (새로운 도시 와 시민들 의 합창). After the outbreak of the Korean War , he worked as a correspondent and wrote poems such as war time beacon (신호탄信號彈).

In 1951, together with other poets who fled the north , he founded the "Second Half of the Century" (후반기) circle in Pusan . He was active for almost four years and in 1955 Park published his works 19 Tage Amerika (19 일간 의 아메리카) and Park In-hwan. Poetry collection (박인환 시선집). He translated Tennessee Williams' masterpiece A Streetcar Named Desire ( Endstation Sehnsucht ). He died on March 20, 1956.

Park's poetry can be described as a continuous contemplation of modernization phenomena. It portrays the harsh reality of contemporary urbanization, the tragedy and bloodshed of international wars, and the general anomie and despair evoked in an environment of the temporary. However, Park's poetry cannot be categorized as pure realism; many of his works consist of nuanced abstract recognition of an alien world, a level on the periphery of contemporary reality that offers an escape route from the discontent caused by modernization.
