Park Yong-rae (born August 14, 1925 in Fuyo-gun County , Chūsei-nandō , former Japanese Empire , today's South Korea ; † November 21, 1980 ) was a South Korean poet .

Life

Park made in 1943 graduated from the Kokai Handelsoberschule ( Jap. 江景商業高等學校 , Kokai Shōgyō Kōtō gakko; kor. 강경 상업 고등학교 , Ganggyeong Sangeopgodeunghakgyo, Kanggyŏng Handelsoberschule) and debuted as a writer in 1956, when his works Herbstlied ( 가을 의 노래 , Gaeurui Norae), Loessweg ( 황토 길 , Hwangtogil) and Erde ( , Ttang) have been published in the magazine Moderne Literatur . His works received a lot of attention, mainly because of his rural poetry. Park died on November 21, 1980.

His career as a poet can be roughly divided into 4 periods. The first period began in the mid-1940s and lasted until the publication of his first collection of poems Eisregen ( 싸락눈 , Ssaraknun). The main motive of this period is the basic awareness of loneliness and despair.

The poems from the second period of his career include all poems between freezing rain and millet ( 강아지풀 , Gangajipul), which focus on the purity of natural phenomena.

The poems of the third period include all poems between millet and white flower stems ( 백발 의 꽃 대궁 , 百 髮 의 꽃 대궁 , Baekbarui Kkokdaendung). These are in stark contrast to those of the two earlier periods. While his earlier poems expressed a certain lyrical awareness, the poems of the third period also involve a tentative exploration of the relationship between people and address the difficult spectrum of death.

The fourth and final period of his career involves a shift in the artist's perspective. During this phase Park rejects the escapism of his earlier works and expands his worldview. It represents a world consciousness and a new personal philosophy.

Although some critics describe his poetry as monotonous and monochromatic, its simple structure and sparse language form the basis for bringing objects of memory into the concise focus. Even his technique of changing the word order commonly used in Korean (subject-object predicate) and ending the verses with nouns or nominal suffixes is proof that form and drawing are an important part of his poetry.
