In 1843 the first spa house in the spa park was inaugurated. Since the city enjoyed increasing popularity among the wealthy spa guests of the 19th century, it was decided to demolish the existing spa building and build a large " palace hotel " on the same site . Emanuel von Seidl , who executed the building in the Art Nouveau style with curved lines and smooth facades, was commissioned with the implementation . The hotel was inaugurated on July 1, 1913.

1914 to 1918

For 14 months, from January 2, 1917 to March 8, 1918, the Grand Headquarters of the Supreme Army Command occupied the hotel. The General Staff was housed in what was then the Hotel Oranienhof . At the same time, Kaiser Wilhelm II , who always wanted to be nearby, moved into the Kurhaus. In essence, however, he devoted himself to his representative duties. There he received guests and allies: Ferdinand of Bulgaria , but also a Turkish delegation whose members included Mustafa Kemal , who was largely unknown at the time . In the oval hall of the house, he personally decorated successful officers. There Manfred Freiherr von Richthofen received the Pour le Mérite from the hand of the emperor. Due to the Nahe flood in 1918, the large headquarters of the highest army command was relocated to Spa in Belgium.

1919 to 1945

From 1918 to 1923 the Kurhaus was the headquarters of the French army in the Rhineland . A three-story extension was carried out by Karl Roth in 1929–1930 .

1946 until today

On November 26, 1958, Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer met at the Kurhaus to discuss German-French relations . It was the first meeting of the two great European statesmen on German soil. This was preceded by a visit by Adenauer to de Gaulle's country estate in Colombey-les-Deux-Églises on September 14, 1958.

In 1984, Chancellor Helmut Kohl and French President François Mitterrand met in the Kurhaus. The hotel was flooded by the two Nahe floods in 1993 and 1995.

The house was renovated several times: in 1958, 1978 and 1996.
