Colombey les Deux Églises is a French commune with 714 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Chaumont and the canton of Châteauvillain .
The municipality was created with effect from January 1, 2017 as Commune nouvelle through the amalgamation of the formerly independent municipalities Colombey-les-Deux-Églises and Lamothe-en-Blaisy , which take on the status of a Commune déléguée in the new municipality . To distinguish it from the old church, the new church no longer has any hyphens in its name.

The districts 3 to 9 were already merged with Colombey-les-Deux-Églises with effect from January 1, 1973 and were called Commune associée according to the legislation at the time . When the new Commune nouvelle was formed, it was given the status of a Commune déléguée .
Personalities
The place became famous through Charles de Gaulle , who died there on November 9, 1970 at his long-time country residence La Boisserie after he had retired from politics in April 1969 as the first President of the Fifth Republic. He was born on November 22nd, 1890 in Lille .
A large granite cross of Lorraine was erected in 1972 as a memorial to General de Gaulle . The Lorraine Cross was a symbol of the French government in exile during World War II .
