Is-en-Bassigny is located around 24 kilometers east-southeast of the city of Chaumont in the east of the Haute-Marne department.

history

In the 9th century the village church was devastated by invading Normans. The mechanization of agriculture led to heavy emigration in the late 19th and 20th centuries. Is-en-Bassigny was historically part of the Bailliage de Chaumont within the royal province of Champagne . The place belonged from 1793 to 1801 to the District Bourmont. Also from 1793 to 1801 to the canton of Meuvy and from 1801 to the canton of Nogent .
