Poulangy is a French commune with 386 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region .
Location and climate
The place Poulangy is located on the river Traire in the water-rich landscape of the Bassigny about halfway between Chaumont (approx. 20 km northwest) and Langres (approx. 26 km south) at an altitude of approx. 300 m . The climate is mild to temperate; Rain (approx. 770 mm / year) falls over the year.

Because of the rural exodus caused by the phylloxera crisis in viticulture at the beginning of the 20th century and the increasing mechanization of agriculture , the population of the community has steadily declined since the second half of the 19th century.
economy
The municipality of Poulangy is almost exclusively agricultural; it belongs to the Haute-Marne wine region. In the 19th and early 20th centuries there was a significant production of knives here.
history
Tombs from Gallo-Roman times have been discovered near the site. In the 11th century the Benedictine nuns founded a convent here , which from 1110 to 1233 temporarily belonged to the Cistercian order . It later became a royal abbey (abbaye royale) .
Attractions
- The Romanesque Abbey of Saint-Pierre , along with its church and monastery buildings, was almost completely destroyed during the French Revolution .
- Opposite the former entrance to the abbey is a baroque fountain with a basin (Fontaine de la Dhuys) .
- The Romanesque - Gothic parish church (Église de la Nativité-de-la-Vierge) was in the 12./13. Erected in the 18th century opposite the abbey and is dedicated to the birth of Mary . The bell tower (clocher) is a 17th century addition. The church has been recognized as a monument historique since 1913 .
