Because of the rural exodus caused by the phylloxera crisis in viticulture at the beginning of the 20th century and the increasing mechanization of agriculture , the population of the community has steadily declined since the second half of the 19th century.
economy
For centuries, the residents of the village lived as self-sufficient farmers on agriculture, which of course also included some cattle breeding. In the years 1857–1862 the place was connected to the railway network, but the line has been closed for several years.
history
Ancient or early medieval finds have not yet been made in the municipality. It can therefore be assumed that the former priory laid the foundation for the emergence and development of the place.
Attractions
- The former three-aisled priory church of Saint Didier is dedicated to St. Desiderius von Langres and probably dates from the 12th century; however, the entire church was partially renewed in the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. A special characteristic of the church building is its Gothic-looking porch , which is vaguely reminiscent of a narthex . The church has been recognized as a monument historique since 1925 .
- In the village square there is a well with a large basin, which was also used as a cattle trough (abreuvoir) .
- Another elongated fountain basin can be found in the middle of the main street.
