The canton of Poissons is a French constituency in the arrondissements of Chaumont and Saint-Dizier in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region . Its main town is Poissons .

history

The canton was founded on February 15, 1790. From 1801 to 2015, 18 municipalities belonged to the canton of Poissons. The canton was expanded significantly on March 22, 2015 as part of the reorganization of the cantons. This is why the canton of Poissons has had 67 municipalities since 2015. Until 2015, its communes belonged to the cantons of Bourmont (25 communes), Poissons (18 communes), Saint-Blin (15 communes) and Clefmont (9 communes).

Until the nationwide reorganization of the French cantons in March 2015, the canton of Poissons included the 18 municipalities of Aingoulaincourt , Annonville , Cirfontaines-en-Ornois , Échenay , Effincourt , Épizon , Germay , Germisay , Gillaumé , Lezéville , Montreuil-sur-Thonnance , Noncourt-sur -le-Rongeant , Pansey , Paroy-sur-Saulx , Poissons , Sailly , Saudron and Thonnance-les-Moulins . Its layout corresponded to an area of ​​212.08 km ² . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5222.
