The canton of Châteauvillain is a French canton in the Chaumont arrondissement in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region ; its main town is Châteauvillain .

The canton is located in the west of the Haute-Marne department.
history
The canton was established on February 15, 1790. Until 1801 it was called the canton of Châteauvilain and then from 1801 to 1814 the name of the canton Ville-sur-Aujon . From 1801 to 2015, fourteen municipalities belonged to the canton of Châteauvillain. With the reorganization of the cantons in France, the number of communes rose to 38 in 2015. Communes from the cantons of Arc-en-Barrois (all 10 communes) and Juzennecourt (14 of the 16 communes) were added to the previous 14 communes .

Until the nationwide reorganization of the cantons in March 2015, the canton of Châteauvillain consisted of the 14 municipalities of Aizanville , Blessonville , Braux-le-Châtel , Bricon , Châteauvillain (main town), Cirfontaines-en-Azois , Dinteville , Laferté-sur-Aube , Lanty- sur-Aube , Latrecey-Ormoy-sur-Aube , Orges , Pont-la-Ville , Silvarouvres and Villars-en-Azois . Its layout corresponded to an area of 334.74 km 2 . Before 2015 it had a different INSEE code than it does today, namely 5206.
