Villars-en-Azois is a French commune with 66 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Chaumont and the canton of Châteauvillain . In addition, the community is part of the company founded in 2003 Municipalities of Les Trois Forêts . The inhabitants are called Villarsois (es) .
location
Villars-en-Azois is located in a side valley west of the Aube around 56 kilometers southeast of Troyes and 30 kilometers west-southwest of the small town of Chaumont in the west of the Haute-Marne department on the border with the Aube department . The municipality consists of the village of Villars-en-Azois and is covered over large areas by forest.
Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Usage and Champignol-lez-Mondeville (both in the Aube department) in the north-west, Laferté-sur-Aube in the north, Silvarouvres in the east and south, Lanty-sur-Aube in the south and Cunfin (in the Aube department) in the south-west and west.
history
Until the French Revolution, Villars-en-Azois was within the Bailliage de Chaumont . The parish belonged to the Chaumont district from 1793 to 1801. Since 1801 it has been part of the Chaumont arrondissement. From 1793 to 1801 the place was assigned to the canton Laferté-sur-Aube. Since 1801 the municipality has been located within the canton of Châteauvillain (called Ville-sur-Aujon until 1814).
