Toponymy

The name of the community, which emerged in its current form in 1793, developed from the name of a local knight dynasty from Saxifontis via Saissefontaine to Sexfontaines . Loosely translated the place in German would be called six fountains - similar to the community name of Septfontaines ( seven fountains ). In 1793 and 1801 there were still the spellings Sex Fontaines and Sixfontaines .
