Maranville is a French commune with 410 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Marne department in the Grand Est region . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Chaumont and the canton of Châteauvillain . The inhabitants are called Maranvillois (es) .

location

Maranville is located west of the Aujon about 62 kilometers east-southeast of Troyes and 20 kilometers west of the small town of Chaumont in the west of the Haute-Marne department. Another river is the Le Brauzé , which flows into the Aujon from the right at the district of Haurancourt.

Transport links

The community is close to national traffic routes. Via the D12 and D396, in a south-westerly direction, after a few kilometers near Ville-sous-la-Ferté, you can reach the A5 autoroute .

history

The place was near the Roman road from Langres to Reims. Remains of a villa and a Roman military camp were excavated, as well as a cemetery with skeletons of 80 people. In Val Saint Père there was an abbey that was destroyed by the Huns. Valuable objects were found in a well that were hidden there in 451 before the attack by the Huns. In the 12th century monks from the Clairvaux monastery settled in the area. In the 13th century, a noble family de Malanville (Maranville) is mentioned. A heavy plague hit the community in 1635. The parish belonged to the Chaumont district from 1793 to 1801. Since 1801 it has been part of the Chaumont arrondissement. From 1793 to 1801 Curmont was a municipality in the canton of La Ferté (sur Aube) and from 1801 to 2015 part of the canton of Juzennecourt .
