The Saônelle is a river in France that runs in the Grand Est region . In a section of its upper course it is also known under the name Royat .

The Saônelle rises on the municipal boundary of Lafauche and Prez-sous-Lafauche , generally drains in a north-easterly direction and flows into the Meuse as a left tributary after 22 kilometers at the municipal boundary of Frebécourt and Coussey . On its way, the Saônelle crosses the Haute-Marne and Vosges departments .
