General election in Kenya 1963

The 1963 parliamentary elections in Kenya took place on May 18 and 26, 1963 and were the last elections in Kenya , which was still British, before independence in the same year. The representatives for the House of Representatives and the Senate were elected . The Kenya African National Union (KANU), led by the later long-time President Jomo Kenyatta , won an overwhelming majority of votes and seats, with 83 of 124 seats in the National Assembly and 18 of 38 seats in the Senate. Five seats in the Assembly and three in the Senate remained vacant due to border conflicts with Somalia.
